Hello,

I have a Key Fob that does not work. I have searched the 986 section of the forum and cannot find any information on what to do or what to try. Manually, the key opens and closes the door and starts the car but the remote function does not work. I have replaced the battery but without any luck. I remember once reading about a procedure where you put the key in the ignition and but I do not remember the sequence of actions to get the key working again. What can be done? Any help is appreciated.

My car is a 1998 Canadian 2.5L Boxster.

Thanks Tom

Sadly, alarm issues are one of those things that involve the dealer to program a new fob to the car's computer.

I am in the same boat, and have a date with the dealer next Tues. I will post what transpires.

Good luck. :)

No help here. The remote is just like anything electronic. Sometimes the remote just stops working, even though the light blinks. One of the mechanics I know has a box of bad remotes.

Try taking the battery out and installing it upside down (polarity reversed). After 10 seconds, remove it and install it correctly.

This worked for a different issue I was having with the key fob (thanx Loren).

Give it a shot - won't cost a $.01

If you lock the car with the key and the alarm still arms then it sound like the key fob has failed. Only option I know of is a visit to the dealer for a new unit and programming.

Hi, had this problem on the wifes car, taking the fob apart and cleaning under the rubber buttons fixed it. Not sure if this can be done on the Boxster fob though.

Well, I found out that the Key fob was the culprit. Two blinking bars when you "have to" key lock the car means key fob out.

It only took the dealer 1.5 days to figure it out!

The aggravating part is I wanted a second key made, and because they didn't have two available I have to go BACK to

have them programmed to the car. Argh! <_<
