Hardtop Help...

Recommended Posts

Hello..

Just got a hardtop for my Boxster and can't get the driver's side seated and locked.

It seems that the pin that goes into the spinlock will not go down far enough to allow me to turn the handle to lock the top. Passenger side is fine. I just can't seem to see what could be preventing the pin from dropping into place.

Any and all help appreciated.

I have searched here and on 986forum.com but can't find a solution.

Cheers

Mike

Mike,

You might want to look at the adjustment bolts near the spinlocks on the hardtop. If the hardtop is new or from another car, some adjustment is probably needed before it will fit properly.

i had the exact same problem with my hardtop. I tried to switch which side I engaged first but still could not get the driver side in. What I found was a burr on the roll pin or ears of the engagement part. I lightly sanded the edges of the roll pin (not the pointed part, but the "T" parts) down and the next try it went right in.

Hey everyone...thanks for the responses.

Update...I loosened completely the adjusting mechanism on the driver's side, and after some persuading,

I finally got that side locked. It doesn't line up very well with the front edge of the quater panel.

It appears that the whole top needs to go forward about 1/2 inch...maybe a little less. The passenger side lines up perfectly.

My fear is that the window won't seal properly.

Any ideas???

Cheers

Mike
