Changed remote battery, now it won't work!

Recommended Posts

I thought the remote battery for my '02 Boxster was getting low because of the operable range, so I picked up another one and replaced it. It worked for a few days fine, but then no light on the thing and it wouldn't work at all. So I reversed polarity from some advice on this site. Now it looks like its working because it lights up when I press it, but the car does nothing.

From searching the site, I tried putting the key in, holding down the lock button and turning it on, but that did nothing either.

Any thoughts on methods that might get the thing working again?

I called my dealer and they automatically told me that it have to be reprogrammed for an hour's service charge at 100 bucks! Gimme a break! From changing a battery? Are these cars built to support the service depts?

I had this happen to me too. I thought the remote was broken, but it wasn't.

1. Make sure the battery is brand new. The red light on the remote can flicker, but not strong enough to actually send signals.

2. Re-seat the battery and make sure that it clicks into the battery seat in the remote. That was my problem after thinking that the entire remote needed replacing.

Tried to seat the battery better, and even bent the clips a bit to make a better contact with the battery. No luck. Light on the remote seems to work fine. Locks won't open, and either will the trunks. Guess it's back to the dealer to reprogram.

It takes a common coin size battery (CR2032).

Yeah, they should be easy to find at your local drug store. It's the same size as a common hearing aid battery I believe.

LOL!! That would be a rather large hearing aid. Either that, or you have been talking to my mother about

my big ears!
