Hello:

I am having issues with the CR220. A couple of months ago the display started "going dark" even though the sound is still working and so are the buttons. It suddenly comes bac for no apparent reason or at least not a consistent one. I have tried cleaning the contacts to no avail. Has anyone seen this? Please help with any thoughts. I am trying to exhaust all the DIY before going to the dealer. Thanks!!!

:welcome:

I assume you cleaned and inspected the contacts on the removable face plate?

If you have done that then I doubt there is any hope other than replacement. Maybe borrow a face plate from another Carrera or Boxster owner and see if that fixes it.

There are some CDR-220's on ebay but I doubt you want to pay the dealer price ($800-$1000) for a new one from Porsche.

Maybe time for a 3rd party radio if that is the case.

stratpa, mine started doing exactly the same thing a few days ago and more than that I've lost two "pixels" on the LCD screen, so now it doesn't display 91.3 but 31.3, or M JTE for MUTE as an example.

I've lost the number two, as well, on the 1234567890 sequence above the ten inferior buttons so now reads 1 34567890.

All functions are ok but the display goes dimmed for a few minutes and then goes bright again for no apparent reason.

Mine's a 2002 986 Boxstser with Becker CD changer and rear speakers kit.

I cleaned the contacts too with no success.

If you find the right answer for this please let me know, I'll do the same for you.

I'm thinking of bad LCD screen contacts inside the front panel.

Thanks

Stuttgart.
