Seems like the aerodynamics of my Carrera likes to carry little rocks right into the windshield...

There are 2 or 3 little craters and 1 with a 1/2 cm crack coming out of it. I bought a Permatex Windshield Repair kit and think I ought to fix the crack so it doesn't grow.

Does anyone have any advice for me on doing this? Do these kits work? Any special issue with Porsche windshields? Better to have a specialist place do it?

The damage with the crack is right at the bottom center of the windshield, an inch above the blacked strip.

Thanks.

I did this the other day. Seems ok, but it really depends on the chip/crack. Give it a try, the kits are similar to what a repair shop uses. If you don't like the results you can always get a new windshield.

Here is a photo of the kit that I used with really good results:

I found the little devices provided with this kit made it easy to get the repair material injected into exactly the right spot. After the repair, the chip (with a star pattern radiating off it) was almost imperceptible.

Aside from the appearance, the material fills the little voids very well and I think that it prevents water seeping in in the winter and then freezing, thereby expanding the crack.

Porsche windshields can be repaired with these kits, just like any other car's windshields, but the results depend on the severity of the crack/chip.

Regards, Maurice.

Spot repair on a windshield can sometimes be pretty cheap at a shop and the one windshield I had it done on (years ago) had no obvious marks after having cracks filled in. They put the solution in the hole and heat it to cure. If you drive up to a shop that isn't busy and ask how much $ for a quick fix I bet it's not a lot. Unless you just feel like trying out the kits...

My insurance company (USAA) waives the deductible if you get the chip repaired rather than installation of new window. Probably others do too.

State Farm does the same.
