Convertible top removal

I am having problems with the 3m dual sided tape adhering to the canvas that Mke Focke had recommends. Can anyone recommend a stronger dual sided tape? Thanks Mike

I used that tape as well when I did my top replacement. It will stick if you clean the surface with an appropriate solvent first. The good news is that once you get it to stick initially, it will stick really well after it's installed and sandwiched between the two parts.

You can call a hotline number at 3M and they have engineers that will take your call and give you very specific advice on how to get that double sided tape to stick (i.e., the specific product to use to promote adhesion).

I recently installed a glass windowed OEM convertible top from a 2004 Boxster and when I first received the top from the junkyard, the canvas part of the top belows the rear window was separated from the rear main bow. I called 3M and got advice on the strongest adhesive they make for canvas to metal. I stripped that section of the top and used a different "neoprene adhesive" from 3M to glue the canvas to the steel portion of the rear main bow, then used a little more on top of the V-shaped rubber gasket, then used the 3M double sided tape inside the slot before pressing in the fat gasket.

It is now more solid than the OEM method.

To apply the seam sealer, for those of us that have leaking seams, is it applied to the topside of the seal or to the back side as described on the bottle? This weekend I tried to get around the backside or inside of the seam from inside the car and it is nearly impossible. Any recommendations from those that have done this? Other than this my top is in fine conditions and I would like to get a few more years of use out of it.
