I have a series of electrical problems on my 2000 986 and I'm wondering if they are inter-related.

1- Speedometer needle stopped working, I changed the whole cluster (found a used one on e-bay) and it solved the problem temporarily. Problem was intermittent for a while, now both digital and analog speedo do not work at all

2-Cruise control was working fine before but now works only intermittently. I never know if it will work or not when I start the car. When it works, it never stops even with no speed indicator. If I stop the car and restart it, sometimes the cruise control won't work and it takes days before it starts working again

3-Rear spoiler used to work fine and it stopped. Won't raise when I press the button or at 75mph. Fuses seem OK

4-Door locks stopped working with the remote. They work fine with inside button. I changed the battery and nothing happened.

Any advice besides selling it to an enemy???

Are you sure all of the cluster plugs are "locked" in place?

The plugs seem well connected and locked. Do you think all these problems can be caused by the cluster? Should I try to replug my old cluster and see if some problems disappear? I appreciate your help.

Looks like the first 3 items are speed signal related, check the fault codes. Try your second key for item 4.

I ordered an OBDII scanner. I will check the codes. The "check engine" light is on anyway. I will also try my old cluster and see if everything remains the same. Any idea how to verify if the speed sensor works properly?

Thanks

The PIWIS tester will give you " Speed signal missing "

I agree with RFM a generic code reader will not show anything but P series fault codes.

You will need a Porsche PST2 or PIWIS tester to check this.
