I have an 02 TT with manual transmission and about 40K miles. Every time i fill up the car with gas, i have an issues with the car missing / severely bucking for a few minutes during acceleration. It is almost like the engine is stopping / missing for a split second and starting again. Not exactly the same but sort of like the car is in limp mode or maybe not getting gas.

This has been a recurring problem that happened before and after changed the park plugs, before an after i had an ecu flash, before and after i changed my diverter values.

Again, this ONLY happens after i fill up the car and for a few minutes during acceleration (and i always use premium).

Sounds to me like one of your intercooler tubes is off.

no codes.

Loren, what would the intercooler tubes have to do with the after fuel issue? They appear to be firmly in place.

They wouldn't have anything to do with the fuels issue. But the loss of power you describe sounds like a collapsed or loose intercooler hose to me.

Sudden loss of power sure sounds like an intake leak.

a problem is that you have correlated the fuel fill up to the performance problem....this could be pure coincidence (vs. causal). what tool did you use to read the codes....it does sound like a leak or plugs/coil packs.

It is had to describe but it is basically a full loss of power for very short periods of time under acceleration. Like limp mod but much more dramatic. i has something to do with the gas becuase it only happens AFTER fill up and for about 5 mins. Wish i could describe it better.

My GT2 does the same every time I wash it! In your case it sounds like the fuel filling is creating some kind of air or vapour lock which is purged out on the first run.I would be checking fuel tank breather set up wherever that is.Cheers

Skymast,another cause might be water or other impurities at the bottom of your fuel tank.When you fill up the incoming fuel stirs up the bottom and some of the water[or whatever]gets sucked into the system before it settles down again.There may be an additive that disperses water which you could try.In the past I have tipped in a 1litre bottle of methylated spirits and that has worked but NOT in a Porsche only carburettor types.There is probably a procedure for draining the tank as they all build up crap over time.

Doesn't sound like anything so grim as things listed above (not to say it's NOT either) BUUUUT this is my guess as well... I've experienced what you're describing as directly related to fillup... I think in my case, it was more impurities/dirt from a station whose tanks had recently been filled by a tanker. I now ask the clerk hen the last tanker fill was... they stir up dirt that settles to the bottom of the tanks, and it can get in YOUR tank if you fill up to soon after a visit from the tanker to the station.

Dirty gas.

My 2003 X50, bone stock, went in within the last 8 months for a similar issue - there was a check valve on the vapor recovery line that was getting stuck open because a carbon canister on the fuel recovery system started to disintegrate (the carbon partciles sat in the seats of the check valve and would not let it seat (close) properly) - reasonably easy fix and it's been running fine now for a while. 189,000+ miles on the ticker and still rolling strong!! T2 knocks on wood!! Hope this helps.

Sorry to resurrect this but i am still having the same problem with my 02 Turbo. I took it into the dealer a few weeks ago (they replaced the purge valve / vent pipe (part # 996 110 129 72)) and I am still having the same issue every time i fill up.

As a summary - every time i fill up my car, I hit a huge dead spot under lower RPM acceleration. It feels like the engine is just not getting fuel for a brief second and then all is well (until i shift gears again and the RPMs drop down) It gets back to normal after 5 mins or so and there are no signs of the problem when the car is idling. It has been doing this for a long time and it happens every time.

Maybe a sticky fuel injector? I have the exact same thing happen on my 01 TT, but not related to fill ups. This past week I put in my first bottle of Techron Fuel Injector cleaner and it seemed to minimize, but not elimiate the problem. I bought a couple of bottles of RedLine S1 Fuel System Cleaner (I used that stuff in my 97 TT Supra and it worked well), and I plan to use it over the next 9k miles, adding it every 3k miles to the tank, and I hope it helps.
