Hi,

On Friday I received my Durametric kit and plugged it into my car imediately. It reported:

P0491 Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 1 - Insufficient Flow

P0492 Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 2 - Insufficient Flow

After a search here, I found a number of possible causes to this. However, I don't feel any symptoms, and don't have any lights turning on.

Could this be degenerative? Should I be concerned?

Model and year of your car please?

996TT, 09/2001 (MY02?)

P0491 Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 1 - Insufficient Flow

P0492 Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 2 - Insufficient Flow

Possible cause of fault

- Electrical fault in power supply or line between relay and secondary air injection pump

- Secondary air injection pump relay mechanically faulty

- Mechanical fault in electrical secondary air valve

- Pneumatic secondary air valve faulty/sluggish

- Electrical fault in secondary air injection pump

- Mechanical fault in secondary air injection pump or secondary air injection pump blocked

- Vacuum system leaking

- Air hose to secondary air injection pump slipped off or constricted

Thanks Loren, but I had seen your response to another person here already, so I knew that. What i was asking is should I expect any symptoms, check engine light, etc?

The air pump runs usually only at startup - for emissions reasons. It may or may not cause a CEL because the pump only runs for a short time.

Here is the US it would cause you to fail an emissions test.

If you have recently had work done on the car check to see if they accidentally forgot to plug the air pump back in.

Thanks again. I had a 80,000 km done when I bought the car in March. Where is the air pump located?

If not, start by checking the fuse. It is a 40A fuse on relay support 2 - which is next to the DME.

Sorry, I don't have a picture of the pump location. It is in the left rear under the intercooler upper hose.

Perhaps someone with a TT can take a photo.

So, while at the dealer to check the coolant consumption as reported in another thread, I had them check this too: new secondary air valve will be installed, under warranty.
