I pulled the center console of my 996 today to install the B&M shifter. That went great. Since this is going to be a race car, I'm leaving the console off. Can anyone identify what these boxes are? I'd like to remove them if possible.

The one on the very bottom is the accelerometer for the Traction control or PSMS. Not sure what the other are, my car only has the bottom one with the orange decal.

I love these trivia questions.

The top one is LoJack because it looks just like this one that was installed near the brake booster.

The second box that is a lighter black or gray color, I was going to say it is the LoJack battery.

The one at the bottom with the orange sticker is the air bag control unit. What year is the car and does it even have traction control or PSM?

Based on how things were wired, I assumed the second box was part of the lojack system. I pulled both out, and the car still runs and didn't blow up, so I guess it's ok.

The car is a 2000 C2. There is no PSM in it. Once I pulled the Lojack, I could see that the bottom box was in fact an air bag control unit. Thanks for all the help.

Mystery solved. PSM did not exist until 2001.

really? :unsure: i have a 2000 that has psm. i haven't taken my console apart see what it looks like underneath though.

that box is the "light speed" activator..... :D

Ooops, I am a lowley Boxstir owner. The Boxster did not get PSM as an option until 2001.

I have a Millennium brochure and it says it came with PSM.

But the Boxster always had to wait for hand-me-downs from the Carrera....
