I have installed a Porsche self dimming rear view mirror that the dealer included with my 2004 C2 Cab when I bought it. I am having a heck of a time wiring the thing. The TSB for the install describes connection points BS 16/2 for the power and BS 11 for ground on the relay tray. After a great deal of difficulty I was able to drop the tray and access the under side where the connectors are supposed to fit. Here is my problem: They don't! The wires fall right back out and do not connect or clip into the holes in the underside of the relay tray. I have reviewed and printed the thread posted here about this install but have been unable to get this to work. I am quite frustrated with this project and don't know what to do at this point other than to remove the wiring harness and mirror I installed and replace the old one.

Can anyone offer any help or advice on wiring this **** thing?

Thanks allot for ANY help.

I don't have the TSB here, but from your description it sounds that you are describing the wires that are to connect to the autodimming side mirrors. If you don't have the side mirrors, just tie the wires off to the side - the mirror should work without it.

There are three basic wires: +V, GND, and reverse. The reverse signal makes the mirror go clear at night, when you reverse. The other wires have the 'smaller' connectors, and do not need to be connected.

I installed the mirror below, but this was aftermarket OEM. Not sure you have the same model. We had to use the 996 TSB, as the 986 TSB turned out to be erroneous.

Mike,

Is your's a C4S Cab, if not how hard was it to install other than the pluggin the wires in? How hard was it to remove the old mirror and run the wires down to the fuse box(I think it would be easier in a cab). I want to do this project on my 2003 996 coupe(as my dealer told me it's a 6 hour book job) I'll do it my self.

Cheers,

Corey

I do not know what is going on. We filmed the mirror install on Henry's Boxster last year. As Henry said, you only hook up 3 wires. Positive, ground, and the reverse wire under the seat. The other wires are not used and they have a pin on the end that will not go into the bridge plugs.

Positive and ground go to the correct bridge plugs in the correct empty slot. The bridge plugs are the gray plastic things. I forget if they are marked so you would know which is which. We used the wiring diagram.

This is Ramen inserting the pin at the end of the wire into the empty slot in a bridge plug. Turned out it was the wrong plug because there was a wiring change to the Boxster which was not noted on the Boxster instructions, so Henry used the 996 instructions.

I do have all the wiring diagrams and have installed the mirror and wiring harness. My problem comes from the fact that the connectors on the end of the brown wire (ground) and the brown/orange wire (power) will not plug into any open connection points on the underside of the relay tray. I have pushed, turned and cussed but it seems as if there are no connectors to plug into at points BS11 and BS 16/2. The wire will just drop back out when inserted into these points on the underside of the relay tray.

I am starting to wonder if there have been changes on MY04. Are there any other points that I can pick up power and ground? How about directly at the fuse box? Doesn't the relay tray wiring go to the fuse box? Couldn't I pick up power there instead? Does anyone know which fuses are connected to the two relay points BS 16/2 and BS 11?

Thanks again everyone

Mike
