Hello

I am wondering wether a full sized spare tire will fit in the rear trunk of my 2005 boxster base?

I dont need the rear trunk for storage.

and would love to have the security of a full sized spare with me?

I have NOT taken longer trips, purely because of the spare tire problem...

any other advice?

Thanks

Hi,

I don't think there's any way you will fit a normal wheel in the trunk due to its depth. I have 19" wheels on my Boxster and don't have a hope. Some people have used 'space-saver' wheels that are obviously not as deep, but there's no room in the back for even these - would have to be stored in the front.

Not having a spare should not prevent you using the car. You can always deal with minor issues with the sealant supplied or use a recovery service, although you must have thought of this.

Well, remember that the front wheels are a different size than the back. There's a 50% chance that whatever you carry, it won't be the same size as what goes flat anyway.

I would not worry either, especially to the point of not wanting to take a long trip. I bought one of those emergency tire plug kits and a pair of needle nose pliers last year to keep in the trunk, just in case. This is in addition to the Porsche supplied sealant kit.

I am more concerned about being in an area without cell phone coverage in the unlikely event that I get a flat tire....than actually getting a flat tire in the first place.

I used to fear the lack of a spare, but unless you are really roughing it (the Alaska Highway or equivelant) I think that the sealant kit would take care of most problems.

Also remember that in addition to no spare you likely don't have a jack or a wheel wrench either...
