Picked this up on friday B)

505447-4.jpg

The car seems to have been very well looked after and has been serviced every 5K, had belts ect/clutch/brake over hall recently.Comes from PCGB member.

it drives superbly but a couple of things are worrying me:

-when driving the car hard (after it's warmed) i get a burning oil type smell in the cabin.

-when accelerating hard the car gives off a little smoke from the exhaust (not a lot, but enough to worry me!)

Any idea's on the smell or the smoke?

thanks,

rick.

One common problem is a oil leak at the camshaft end cap. It sits at the rear of the camshaft housing and when it leaks drips down onto the exhaust.

I suspect the turbocharger is leaking a bit of oil past its seals.

Remember that it's a bad idea to flog a car before the oil is hot and that goes doubly for turbocharged cars. The turbo spins extraordinarily fast.

(BTW, a turbocharger rebuild on that car is not very difficult)

the smell could definately be the cap on the back of the cam housing, this is very common

there are 3 small bolts that hold it on, don't tighten them.. the gasket is cork and you will crush the gasket and make the leak worse

also check the gasket around the cam housing itself, this is also a common area of leakage

neither of these is that difficult for a DIYer
