I have a 1999 carrera 4. I was looking at the engine today and I could not figure out how to tighten the

fan. It has a whining noise sometimes when i start the engine.

thanks beforehand

You cant, the poly-V belt is equipped with a automatic tightener. You can replace the belt and the rollers in case of noise, check the alternator, water pump and steering servo pump as well.

As RFM said check the belt and check the pulleys. Pulleys have been known to go bad.

Thanks guys.

How do I check the pulleys? Do I just try to twist them to see if there is any play?

The belt snapped today and broke one of the small pulleys. I'm happy it happened a mile way from home. Half of the warning lights were on, so I was already waiting for the wors scenario.

Thanks

KL

Take the belt off - check each pulley for wobble. There should be none.
