mass airflow sensor? 2001 996tt

Tech said my check engine light came on because of the mass airflow sensor.

Where is this sensor located? Top/middle of engine on the Y shaped air intake?

or is it on the air box some where?

Any one just clean the sensor?

Tech cleared the error and wanted to see how long before it came back on.

Any help, should I replace this myself?

Item 3 is your MAF.

To remove it for cleaning or replacement you will need a Security Torx T20.

I bought a complete set of security Torx drivers at Harbor Freight for under $5.

If you replace it yourself, read up on cleaning the MAF by doing a search. You don't want to touch the wires at the end...just spray them with the CDC electrical connector cleaner....It's not a major project, just be careful with the wire sensors. Takes all of 10 minutes if that.
