I just bought an 05 boxster S

and when the roof opens i noticed that one side seems to come up a bit further ahead of the other side, is this normal or is there something wrong with the motor of the slower side... will the roof still come up if one motor has problem?

and the boxster has the optional sport steering wheel, and i noticed that there is a little click when i turn the wheel from the normal 12 o'clock position to the 11 o'clock position, the click is very slight but can be felt thru the entire steering wheel and seem to be annoying at slow speed.

I will try to post some pics of the roof if it is not normal...

Thanks again.

I stopped the roof half way open and took a look inside and found a snapped white plastic part at the end of a metal rod, since i bought this car used and found the opening a little weird after ...and it has been already like one month since i bought it. ... i don't think i can bring it back to the used car lot.... but this car is still under factory warranty, ...is this covered under warrenty?

Thanks

Roof issues are covered under factory warranty. Take it back.

Be prepared to wait over a day for your car back, though.

SLATEGREYTERACOTTA:

Be careful not to operate your roof too frequently until your get the pushrod with the white plastic ball cup replaced. Although the roof will operate with only one side intact, the additional stress on that side could cause the white plastic ball cup to snap.

Also, inspect the foam liner drain tray on the side that has snapped for any rips or tears, as the dangling pushrod can dig into the drain tray and damage it. If you don't repair any rips/tears, you may well get water into the passenger compartment the next time you wash the car or have a heavy rain. The water will then find its way to your central alarm control unit (on the floor of the car beneath the driver's seat), and then you will be looking at a $2,000 repair.

Maurice,

thanks i am bringing it to the dealership tomorrow and see when they can fix it.

it seems to be a normal problem after reading thru the web...wonder why they dont make it all in metal. maybe they want something that can be replaced easier to break rather than the motor or roof

SGT:

I believe that that is precisely the reason why Porsche doesn't make them in metal. Someone on this board had them manufactured out of aluminum (IIRC), but I would rather have mine pop off or break apart than have to replace, e.g., the lug where the steel ball under the B-Pillar attaches, or some other similar part. The part that the lug is a part of also costs in excess of $2,000.

Remember the caution about the flooding and have the dealer check those foam drain trays as well.

Regards, Maurice.

I had the exact same wheel click. Exactly. Took it to the dealer and they had to replace the steering rack and a couple of sensors.

This was two days out of warranty. Fortunately I had taken it in two weeks earlier for a warranty runout check and they gave it a clean bill of health, so they worked with Porsche and it was covered under warranty.

Sorry to hear this. If you are still in warranty I would jump on this quickly. These are not cheap.

no didn't ask them about it... just thought i will live with it

Don't live with it, take it back, it is your steering rack !!!!! $$$$$$ Get it fixed under warranty !!!
