How do you know when to re-place the

poly-belt? It feels strong and still looks good

after 2 years and 51,000 miles. Here is a picture.

According to the Major Maintenance Checklist (in our Contributing Members Download area).

Additional maintenance for drive belt

- Check drive belt at 40,000 miles (60,000 km) or every 4 years

- Check drive belt at 100,000 miles (150,000 km) or every 10 years

- Check drive belt at 160,000 miles (240,000 km) or every 16 years

The procedure is the same as the one in the 996 DIY section.

Thanks Loren,

My belt looks real good so I will keep watching it. It

apears that if the belt failed, you would lose the

water pump and the alternator. I will wait a little longer on the belt.

Are there any reports on these belts fraying?

Thanks again.

The interval on the old belts was 60k and when you replaced them always always still looked good. And as loren mentioned usually a broken belt is preceded by a broken pulley.
