Hello:

My temperature light is flashing, but the temperature gauge stays around 190. Some days the light doesn't flash. Is this my therostat going? Thanks.

If the temp is staying where it should it cannot be the thermostat.

The light serves two purposes and the second one is the coolant level. Have you checked it?

If you need to add fluid, top off with distilled water.

Check for coolant under the rear trunk's carpet. You may have a cracked overflow tank. Very common.

Temp seems a bit high

Mine runs spot on 180.

I think we had this same discussion just a few weeks ago. Many run 180-190F and vary between this range while others (like mine and yours) are spot on 24/7. Let's not scare the guy from the primary issue quite yet! He most likly has a level or level sensor issue to deal with.

I'm sure Loren has posted this a dozen times, but there are 4 conditions for the temperature gauge light:

Four functions of the coolant warning light:

1. Engine coolant level too low

— light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz)

2. Engine compartment temperature too high

— light flashes slowly (0.5 Hz) (engine compartment blower might be faulty)

3. Engine coolant temperature too high

— light is lit; pointer on the right

4. Temperature sensor at water outlet faulty

— light flashes rapidly (1 Hz); pointer on the right

Note

The temperature warning in point three is indicated if the conditions "engine coolant temperature too high" and "engine coolant level too low" are present simultaneously

(1Hz = 1 flash per second. 0.5Hz = 2 seconds per flash)

Thanks for all the posts. I will check the coolant level.

It is a problem with the coolant level. It was down almost half a gallon of fluid. I did check under the carpet in the rear trunk and it is sticky and wet. I would say the coolant reservoir has a leak. Anyone have an idea on how much that will cost me? Thanks.

Search this website, there is a tremendous amount of info on this topic already written here. Common failure item.

Your question is dependent on the fact if you are DIY, sending it to an independent shop or taking to the Porsche Stealer.

GEIGER Syndrome strikes again.
