Left the radar detector on and drained my battery. While jumping it in a rainstorm I hooked up the cables backwards. Everything recovered except the audio. No fuse problems. Any suggestions?

Thanks

A mechanic told me that when you hook a battery up backwards the first things to go are the radio and alternator. That is why Loren suggested the fuse on the back of the radio. What I don't get is that you said the radio turns on but there is no sound.

Did you check the fuse on the back of the radio?

From what I've read, it seems that fuse on the back goes everytime you jump the 996, even if you get the polarity right. Mine was blown when I got the car. But if oyu have LEDs and no sound it is probably the amp. Doesa the CD or tape player mechanically work. You should be able to see/select tracks etc. If those work it is definitely the amp in the trunk. I don't know if it is fused or not. It should be.

If the radio comes on, then it is not the fuse. If it is a Hifi system, then maybe the stock amp is blown. I do not think there is fuse on the amp.
