I had an issue with the parking brake light staying on last night. I pushed the brake back in several times thinking it would pop the brake out 'just a little more' and trigger the light to turn off but it didn't work. The light stayed on and it beeped at me the whole ride home (only about a mile). This morning the light was off and all has been well so far. Any ideas or similar problems?

Take a look, after removing the trim, to the park brake lever mechanism ( pedal ). There is a damper installed who's leaking and helps no longer the pedal in his stroke to come back fully, the brake switch is than not fully depressed. Unfortunately the damper is not available separately, perhaps some specialised shops can help you out.

I always have to pull mine out twice or pull it all the way out and hold for a few seconds to get the light off...

This damper is truly available separately here in Europe :D The part number is: 955 423 389 00. The price is around 50$ and just a 3 minutes job to change it out.

I came across 2 Cayennes with the same problem - and I normally lift the foot brake pedal a little bit more "upwards" with my feet ...perhaps the spring of the release mechanism was not strong enough to affect another 1 cm of pedal travel.

I had the same problem with my 04 S.

As others have mentioned, I could deactivate the light if I pulled up on the pedal with my foot just slightly.

Dealer replaced entire parking brake mechanism saying there were no serviceable parts. Don't recall amount for part and labor but it was under 200 total.

I had the same problem with my '06 CTTS. The dealer (not a Porsche one) that I got the car from recently said all Cayennes have this problem. As mine is still under factory warranty, I had the damper replaced by a Porsche dealer for free.

There are clips on each end of the ball/sockets that "pop" out of the way. Once removed the strut comes off. Pop on the new one. As mentioned, it really is a three minute job. Slide the seat all the way back so you can get comfy looking under the steering wheel. You'll see it.

A small flat blade screwdriver is needed to remove the clips.

Cheers

You folks are all awesome as always - I LOVE this site!!

Sure enough it was exactly that -eg the emergency brake peddle dampener was no longer pushing up hard enough so the sensor thought the ebrake was on!

I found the part SHIPPED for $19.75

A heck of a lot better than the guys at the Porsche dealer that won't even look at the car without charging $100 to even start looking at a car! You can't get anything done at the Carousel Porsche in minneapolis for under $300  :(     Even if it is a 5 minute task

it is crazy the car never stops that horrible loud beeping when it 'thinks' the brake is on!!

How fortuitous, I been having the beep beep every so often and do the triple pull and lift the pedal up sometimes to lol, so I just added this to the lambda sensors I ordered from eBay to come over in one package from the UK.

£16.95 and free p+p to reach mothers house. Bargain to stop that annoying beeping.

My old receipts show it was changed before in 2010, rolls eyes..........

Febi Bilstein Nº 37820

Amazon UK Stock Nº  B00F3CI5DE

Here's my Amazon UK 5 star review:

Identical replacement for Porsche Cayenne 955 (2003-2006) handbrake foot pedal gas strut.
The gas strut that this replaced was the original OEM unit (date coded 2003) & comparing old with new, all the printed ident & safety warnings are identical - the only difference being the date code.
I swapped this out in about 15 mins. There's plenty of online tutorials to follow if you're unsure what to do - try renntech.org

Yep well worth swapping it to stop that annoying beep beep parking brake on warning.

Fit new and forget .........well for a little while at least. Lol

Hi all,

Had intermittent parking brake warnings over the last couple of days and feared the worst. Did a search and found this thread, thank you all for your knowledge and advice.
Hasn't come on today since I actually started using the handbrake (never use it to be honest). Ordered a new gas spring so hopefully no more warnings, I hope!
