Hi again,

Question about the little box inside the main air filter box. There is a big hose that goes from the air filter box to the Throtle Body and there is a small hose that goes down to the air filter box, off of the big hose, and attaches to the part of the little box that is inside the air filter box.

Question is, what does this little box do, as in what is it there for? What would happen if the hole (the top of the part that the hose clamps to) were to be sealed up, as in put duct tape over it?

I have seen that the 'red' hose 'MOD' has no small hose going to this box; there is a 'cap' on top of it. So, can this little hose be sealed off while still using the factory big hose?

Thanks for your reply. Not really sure how important the prolongation of a sound is, but I still have to ask "how important is this little box"? If it is "by-passed" with the red tube thing what would happen if it was by-passed with the OEM tube?

Done that myself using some basic PVC adaptors from the local home improvement store. Makes the car sound a little better when wide open throttle. I believe i found the mod in the 996 DIY.

Apparantly nothing happens, except the sound chnages, so ,yes you can seal the small hose and use the OEM large. My only concern, considering how slight the sound difference is, and it is slight, is that since Porsche went to all the expense and trouble to design such an obviously complicated and more expensive hose, is that there is a more important reason for it, such as aiding the constructive standing wave pressure reinforcement of the intake. I can easily see how something like that might be needed to get the correct frequency, etc. So, IMHO, while I don't think that Porsche is the be all and end all of automotive engineering, I'll leave anything that seems engineered for more than just low cost, as designed!

One of the reasons is the more and more sharply pollution norm ( noise ) in Germany, same for the 997 PSE which is DME controlled now.
