Hi Guys,

Just had problems with the drivers side window. Took it in under

warrenty and they reparied it. They installed a new latch. After all

the reading I did on the 996 site, I was sure that the window regulator needed to

be replaced. They told me that the microswitches were worn out. If you

are a DIY er I sugest the latch first and the window regulator next.

The crazy thing about this is it happened 50 miles before my warrenty ended.

I just sneaked under warrenty with this. By tomorrow, my car will be

over 50,000 miles.

I love this car!!!

There are multiple causes for the window not dropping. The window regulator is by far the most common cause for this. The problem is very easily diagnosed with a PIWIS tester as you can watch the microswitches inside the door latch and the two on the inner/outer door handles to see if they genuinely are a problem, which they rarely are. The 997 uses a different system than the 996 control the window drop but I still, as a DIY, I would not recommend replacing the door latch before the window regulator.
