Hi

I'm a newbie with a new (for me) 99 C2 coupe. The car is strong and runs great with 72k miles. The last service history I have is a 60k service.

I have noticed that a black oily film accumulates on the rear bumper, probably above the exhausts. Not heavy and wipes off easily. Not too noticeable. The engine compartment shows no signs of oil and there are no leaks, at least the garage floor is clean.

Is this a cause for concern?

Buy some RejeX wax and put that on your bumper. Not much can stick to that finish. Bugs on the front bumper (almost) wash off with just the hose water.

Are you sure it is oily and no just brake dust and tire dust?

Any oil on the bottom side of the engine?

It feels oily on my fingers compared to the front bumper. No oil on bottom of engine, dry as a bone.

I've had the car a short time. The seller had the oil changed 'a few months ago.' The oil quantity gauge was two notches down when I got it and it hasn't moved.

Is there any small oil puddle or drops on the floor under the car after being parked overnight?

There is nothing to indicate oil leakage.

I've come to the conclusion that it is brake/tire dust per Loren's

post. There is a lot of wax on the bumper.

Thanks to all for your responses.
