Hi all,

I have recently purchased a 2000 Boxster S (engine replaced under warranty in 2003) and have noticed that when I start the car first thing in the morning, there is minor a drip of clear fluid from both sides of the car under the rear.

When I look underneath, the drips looks like there either coming from or dripping onto the exhaust clamps at either side of the car and the small puddles on the floor are almost identical in size.

The fluid definately isn't oil but doesn't particularly look or smell like coolant either, but I suppose it must be.

The rear coolant tank has been replaced in the past from the reciepts i have, and theres no sign of any level loss.

We've had some heavy rain a few days last week, but since then the weather has been really hot and with the car being driven daily and garaged at night i dont think it can just be water draining from somewhere, especially when it is only happening after sitting a while.

Does anyone have any ideas what it could be and if there are symetrical drain holes at either side of the boxster which would account for the almost identical puddles at either side on starup.

Thanks in Advance.

Scott.

Scott,

Yes there are drain holes in that area for water to drain from around the convertible top down. Additionally others have had issues with water draining into their floor pan and shorting out their alarm system components which would harm starting the car. I am not sure if there are any points such collected water could drain there but do check for dampness under your seats on the and below the car to be extra cautions.

You know own a used Porsche, buy the Bentley manual so you are familar with your car and you can save yourself a world of worry and expense if you have any DIY skills.

If you feel your drain situation from rain is not the answer due to an extended period of dry weather you need to confirm if it's water or not. Taste it!

Scott,

All of above is true and has happened to me.

However, If you have a leaky joint in your exhaust pipes (you may not hear it) condensate can drip out of it. Happened on BMW, can leak quite a bit of h20...for blocks. Freaked me out for awhile.

Thanks very much for all your help.

Have checked the carpets of the car and there's no water ingress or dampness. Tasted the fluid this morning and it's just water right enough. Examined it more thoroughly and it's definately slowly dripping out of the exhaust at the two brackets, so I think the condensation looks like the answer with leaky exhaust pipes.

Thanks a lot Shawn and PK for all your help - what a great board!

Kind regards.

Scott.
