I'm a bit confused about this subject, my current car being the first P-car I've owned in over 30 years. For the tiptronic S transmission, I had read and heard the tranmission is fluid coupled (ala slush box) on the first 2 gears only, and then on 3-5 it is direct drive. I also recently read the same things in the May 2008 edition of Panarama - page 81. So, if this is true then potential power lost in 3rd gear (to rear wheels, 2 wheel drive) has to be the same or pretty close to the 6 speed manual transmission, but definitely not as bad as a regular automatic transmission. Am I assuming correctly? How does the tip bypass the fluid coupling in gears 3-5???

Paul

thanks Paul, I am a member and have seen that huge document before. It really does describe fully the internal workings of the tip, nor does it have any cutaway diagrams. And, it is definitely silent about the direct drive concept for gears 3-5. I'll keep looking.
