Hi All

I'm new here so please be gentle :D .

I've used the search facility on here and done lots of googling to no avail.

The guy I bought my 84 targa from managed to break the fuel filler flap cable when he showed me round it. Managed to get some fuel in via the tank return line to get it home but now I need to fix it, has anyone had this and is there a spare available and a way of opening the flap?

Thanks in advance

go under the fender and remove the 3 bolts that hold the flap on, then take some heavy fishing line and come from under neath to relase the latch

You don't need to remove the bolts. Just open it with the fishing line or string. (What you're doing with the string, by the way, is simply "catching" the latch and pulling it open the same way the cable would. Can't remember whether you pull toward the front of the car or the rear--I'm too lazy to go out in the driveway and check which way the latch opens--but just try both and one will work.)

Frankly, I carry in the glovebox a foot-long piece of nylon cord with a finger-loop in each end in case of just this eventuality. The question is not will the cable break but _when_ will the cable break...
