Hello...

I have a 2000 Boxster S,Tiptronic,Canadian car.

I need to replace the Maf sensor but there seems to be a couple of different types.

E gas is different from non e gas. E gas is option M620.

Is it safe to say that if I don't have that option listed on the underhood label,then I don't have egas and that would lead me to the correct Maf sensor?

Is it that simple?

All 2000 and newer Boxsters are eGas.

So, there is only one choice for the MAF sensor then?

I called the dealershipand they asked for the VIN. Then they said they wouldn't know what it had until

they pulled the old one out.

Have you heard of this before?

Yes, they made a change in mid MY2000.

Some cars had 996.606.124.00 and some cars had 996.606.125.01.

Any MY2000 or newer car can use the (newer design) 996.606.125.01 - if your car already had that MAF - or if you update the DME program to use the 125.01 sensor.

My local dealer says the MAF needs to be replaced but the car runs and starts perfectly,

at all times as far as I can tell.

I'm a little overwhelmed by using the search method right now!!

Anything else I can check first...to kill the CEL?

An MAF problem is most noticeable above 4000 RPM. If your car runs well above 4000 RPM then I guess I don't know what the problem is.

I have a 2000 Boxster with the 124 part, what are the benefits of the DME re-program if i choose to pay for the newer design? Any fuel or performance benefits?
