Anyone who has done this care to tell me where the easiest place to tie into a switched 12v power souce is?

Their is a plug under the center console that is not connected to anything, the telephone power plug. If you do a search you should be able to find some information, and the color code for the wires.

Eric from bumper plugs just told me I need an unswitched power source. is this telephone plug you speak of unswitched?

the phone plug has ground, switched, and unswitched, and a mute i think. you can access it by pulling off the carpeted triangle piece on the right side of the center console. Furthest forward on the left of the passenger seat in a LHD car. Try this link. it should be the connector right in the middle of the bottom of the stack... 4 pins in total
