Hey Guys,

I am so close to buying a beautiful 2002 996 Targa top in Arctic Silver. It appears to be in excellent condition and has only done 40,000km. It's from my local Porsche dealer, but I'm still weary after reading some reliability problems with 996's. I know that the 3.6 is supposed to be more reliable than the 3.4, but is there anything I should ask about or really pay attention to before taking the plunge? I'm so excited, but don't want to buy a dud.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.. and I'm looking forward to (hopefully) posting some photos :)

Cheers

Steve

Check to see if you have any wind noise at cruising speeds coming from the targa top, when the weather stripping gets old there seems to be a whistle at certain speeds and you may be able to get the dealer to address it if it's there. Also, ask if they can lubricate/service the targa track, this will help with other trademark targa noises!
