Hey guys,

i have a late 99 2.7l boxster. im looking to do an engine swap for a 996 motor but am trying to work out the easiest option.

I would prefer not to rewire the the whole car if i can help it.

ive done many searches on the forum and there are plenty of articles on the early non egas 3.4 swap and the later model swap to the 3.6 and these articles have been a great source of general info but i having trouble trying to work out what can be done on my particular car.

im located in Sydney , Australia and will be importing the enigne and components from the USA so before i order i want to be sure i get it right.

the car is a late 1999 boxster, 2.7l it has EGAS , the part number for the DME is 996 618 605 00

how do i work out what version number this DME is ? 5.2.2 7.2 etc ?

any advice or help would be appreciated.

Thanks to Todd (tholyoak) for all the info, very much appreciated.

thought id post a summary on here just to make it easy to find for the next person.

for the late 99/00 2.7l boxster you need an egas 996 motor from a 2000-2001 996.

Having a 2.7 means you have a 7.2 DME.

In order to reflash the brain with the stock program you need as PST2 or PIWIS tester.

Well the engine had been ordered and on its way :)

have also got my evil little hands on a PST2 as well so lots of tinkering ahead :P

Guys talk bout a delayed responses ... so sorry :( my bad.. i dont get on the forums that much .

if anyone in Sydney is looking at doing the conversion .. please feel free to PM me .. and ill be more then happy to help out..

as for mine . i bought a rebuilt 3.4l engine from LA Porsche dismantlers , the shipping and customs from the US wasnt cheap but it was a hell of alot cheaper then sourcing the engine locally . plus at the time the oz dollar was strong.
