I have a 2004 Cayenne S. It has about 41,000 miles on it. Recently it started experiencing a low speed vibration/grinding noise at about 15-20 MPH. Above 20 MPH it goes away. When decelerating it starts again about 20 MPH to stop. It seems to be worst between 15-20 MPH. It sounds like brakes dragging/grinding, but without applying the brakes. Does anyone have any ideas about this problem? Could it be front wheel bearings or related to the front transaxle? Does't the Cay S front wheel drive start up to about 20 MPH? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, before I hit the repair shop.

Thanks, this is a great forum.

I haven't personally experienced this, but it sounds like it could be a failed cardan shaft, which was a common issue on 2003 and 2004 Cayennes.

Do a search for this and see what you find - your problem may be similar to what others have experienced. Your dealer should take care of this for you, there is a TSB regarding this issue.
