Anyone know if there are Ipod integration kits available for an early 02 996TT with Nav? The PCM unit is the early model with number buttons upto 6, a cassette player and ugly display fonts. Looking for hard wired application, not FM and not cassette. Many thanks

Hi. Just found this post - I have the same unit. Looked around a few years back when I bought the car and couldn't find one at all. However I'm so fed up with my casette adapter I'm considering going in with a multimeter and some wires. If you're considering the same this might help - it's allegedly the pinout for the PCM1.

I just installed a kit from Solisto and it works great. Go to their web site and see if it is what you are looking for.

I've just bought the Solisto Extra adaptor. Fitting was very easy. I removed the CD changer and the bracket to expose the cables and wired up the Solisto supplied cable. The kit included a cable for my iPod and once it was plugged in that was it.

I need to fashion a bracket or something similar to hold the iPod and Solisto Extra in place though.

The Solisto adaptor works as advertised. The CD 1 to 5 buttons on the PCM correspond to playlists titled CD1 - CD5 on the iPod and CD 6 on the PCM is a direct access mode which leaves the iPod in control. You also have the option of just having 6 playlists as well. Each playlist can be up to 99 tracks long.

Shuffle works on both modes of playback but the skip track buttons only work with playlists. Although curiously the fast forward/review functions seem to work on the direct access mode.

The iPod charges while connected as well.

Sound quality is excellent. To my ears it sounds better than the old 6 disc changer.

I purchased the Solistor Pro model for my 2002 911 Turbo with factory nav. It plugs in easily in place of the Cd changer. I am happy with it and the IPOD seems to play fine, but I now have switched to using a memory stick.

The only issue I have found is that some MP3's that play have a "hollow" sound while others sound excellent. After some trial and error, I found that the MP3's that have a bitrate of 128 or less are the ones that play great while those with higher bit rates are more prone to have the hollow sound. I use a memory stick that I purchased with my Solisto (from Solisto) to play my MP3's. The Solisto pro accepts a USB memory stick.

The strange thing is that not ALL the songs that are higher than 128 bitrate have the problem. Some sound and play just fine. Also, one or two with the 128 bit rate still have the hollow sound. The other thing is when I advance the track to the next song; the next track will sometimes stay at 0:00 and will not play at all. I have to go back to the track that was being played then advance it again and it will start to play.

I'm not sure if my nav head unit is bad or is it due to a "bug" in the Solisto.

Just my experience.

Great info! Here's a link to the website: http://www.solisto.de/index.php?page=home〈=en

Did you order from the website and have them ship it from overseas or is there a US distributor?

Direct from Solisto. It was not hard but shipping is not cost effective. I am talking to them about distribution in the US but I need to see what kind of a demand there is. If anyone is interested, please let me know. Thank you!

Hi, i'm new here & this is obviously an old topic but i sure can use some help,

i purchase my new 2002 996tt last week and drove it back home (1500+mi) loving every minute of it, but i've to admit that the AM/FM radio/cassette (got read of them years ago) was a diapointment, i first belived that the slot for nav cd would play music cd's, not so, there's no remote cd player in the trunk eather, when i push the buton "CD" i get "no cd player available" message

So, is there anything new in this area?, i would love to be able to hook up an Itouch to my new toy

jackchung, did you ever import the solisto units to the US, if so how much?

thanks in advance for any input

M

I'm a little confused...you have the CDR220 (CDR22) and you can't play CDs? What type of CD are you trying to play? Try a factory CD vs. one you burned..also no mp3...

I am not too sure if it will work on your head unit. My Solisto was for replacement of the CD changer on a 2002 Nav head unit. I am sure the plug in for the CD changer will be the same but not sure about the functionality. If interested in trying it out, contact me by email. $200 shipped to you in the U.S. with all instructions. Full refund if it does not work. You just pay for shipping it back to me.

Jack,

Do you have the same problem that I have with my Solisto? It seems to hang up every so often when changing to the next track. Also, anything over 128 bitrate sounds like it echos when playing. I am wondering if its a desing flaw, a bad Solisto, or a bad PCM1 unit in my car.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

No problems with sound quality, it is actually great. I do have an issue with when I turn the engine off and come back to turn it back on. What happens is that the tracks are lost. For example, I have 60 songs on playlist 2. When the ipod is first plugged in, it registers 60 songs. But when I turn the engine off and come back and turn it back on, it might read an error and it shows that I have only 30 songs and it will only let me access the 30 songs. I have to disconnect the ipod and then reconnect to register the correct number of songs. A bit of a hassel but not too bad. I'd take it over a FM modulator any day.
