Hi there,

I just had my 2000 996 convertible in to a reputable shop looking for the source of a loud bearing kind of noise coming out of the back drivers side of the car.

After having it for a week and a $2500.00 bill to replace the dual mass flywheel, I just picked it up.... and the noise is still there - as loud as ever!

I'm just waiting for a rental car in his lobby, and he tells me he will have to take it apart again and keep looking....

Please - any suggestions on what this might be would be completely appreciated!

Thanks.

P.S. Any leads on a good shop in the Toronto area would be great too - I thought I had one, but this is getting to be a little upsetting - thanks.

Dual mass flywheel issues are rather rare today, looks like the 964 heritage is still alive in the US.

Thanks - the car has been in for this for just over a week.

The day I brought it in, he had the belts off (so he said) and pinpointed the problem to be coming from the clutch.

When I turned around and took the car back today, he showed me the old flywheel and said that's were the noise was coming from

(he couldn't replicate it though)

He then told me he had no idea what the noise was or where it came from - and that he had to take it apart to start tracking it down again...

Like I said, he came well acclaimed, but now I'm beginning to wonder.....

I got the car back today and I thought I'd better update, just for the record....

The mechanic said he went over everything he could in the rear end and looked high and low for the source of the noise, and as a last ditch effort, he took the new flyweel off and checked it - and sure enough, it came from Porsche defective.

I asked him how often something like that happens and he said maybe once a year he gets a bad factory part.

"It was just bad this time since it was such a labout intensive job - no refund from Porsche on that..."

Thanks.

Thanks for posting follow-up.
