Coolant leak

I noticed today for the first time a puddle under the rear bumper of coolant.

It is leaking while the car is shut off.

It dripps from the right area of the bumper.

any idea what it could be??

Please do a search here - a cracked coolant tank is fairly common (unfortunately).

i found the post and did what was said.

sure enough i found my car looking just like in the picture , coolant all over the bottom right of the trunk and a slight dripping. i filled it up and now i need to replace it.

So i cleaned the coolant and refilled the tank.

i was sure it was going to leak again, but since then (2 days ago) nothing leaked.

im a bit confused.

i thought i had a cracked tank, but its not leaking , what else could this be?

ive driven the car for about an hour to make sure i get it to running temp and pressure but still no leak.

I believe there was an upgraded cap for the tank... it maybe a leaking cap.

Check the cap part number ...if it ends in ..00 change it for the later cap with PN ending in...01.

The former has been known to let off pressure and fluid although I'm surprised that it would leak a "puddle" unless it was a catastrophic failure in which case it should still be leaking ;-))

All the same I would just fitt he later cap and keep on eye on it.

ok,

so my cap ends with 01 , good news i guess.

but the leak is still there.

although never as bad as it was the one time it went empty in a matter of 2 hours with a big puddle on the ground

im getting really lost here with this.

If you have an -01 cap and you still suspect a leak get the cap tested or replace it.

A cap leak is usually small - and a cracked tank is usually quite large. Sometime a crack in the tank is impossible to see until it is removed.

Also, with a bad cap you'd likely see moisture around or above the cap. It's seems to me that i've seen a picture of an .02 cap though my memory isn't what it used to be :rolleyes:

Last time I ordered a -01 cap I got an -02 cap. The package still said -01.

Well...... i do have the moisture around and above the cap, but the loss of coolant was so dramatic that i couldnt believe it comes from there.

but since i refilled my tank 3 days ago , the loss been at about 1/10 of a tank per day.

I think i will end up buying a new tank and a new cap.

Take all apart , see what needs to be changed....and worst case return the tank if its not needed.
