I got the latest 08.2007 PCM2.0 European maps and there are EIGHT map CDs plus two multimedia update CDs.

post-4000-1219061641_thumb.jpg

great news, it would be also helpful if "i got" had "from" and either a part number or price.

000.044.901.20. I got it from Porsche Centre Reading, via my independent Porsche Specialist, who gave me some discount, and it worked out to be around £380 including VAT. List price is £349+VAT. It requires version 3 software, but the kit includes CDs to update from V2 to V3. Although the disks are marked 08.2007, the data files on disk are 01.2008. They came in a vinyl case, rather than the nice leather one that the 2005 maps I had were supplied with.

It appears that there is a new map update for the US as well, for those of us with PCM2 and the 3.0 software? Could anyone confirm this?

Does anyone know when the latest US update to the PCM1 2001.1 map content CD was created? I have a MY2002 C4 Cab. I purchased a new CD from Navteq in early 2005. Its 4 years old and needs an update.

I called Navteq today, and they told me exactly what Loren said they would say - that they no longer handle these CD's for Porsche and that I should call Porsche.

What is the latest US California/Oregon CD update that works with PCM1?

Hi

I tried to update my PCM 2.0 from Software Version 2.0 to 3.0 and the update failed

The weird thing is the original outdated Nav CD says to use version 3.0 but this works OK.

originalcd.jpg

Here is a photo of what is on the system at the moment

IGNORE the checking PIN, it's just checking my SIM Card PIN when I turned on the ignition

versions.jpg

The Weird thing is that the Telephone Version has got ????? against it, what do other peoples state ?

Here are the steps I take when upgrading, when the upgrade CD is inserted.

step1.jpg

Select YES

step2.jpg

Then

step3.jpg

Then an error

Step4.jpg

No matter how many times I reinsert the upgrade CD I still get the same.

The only thing I can think is that because the Telephone update is completed 1st (as detailed in the .inf file on the disk) and because my version is unknown i.e. ?????, the update is failing

I've thought about altering the .inf file on the update disk so the telephone update doesn't complete, but the Gateway & MMI does. BUT I am very scared incase the telephone module is then unrecognised, or the PCM dies.

I did insert EU NAV CD3 (2008) and it did install/update PCM successfully and appears to be working OK.

Has anyone seen this before or does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my PCM upgraded to Version 3.0, preferably without going to an Official Porsche Centre

Regards

I hope I'm not beating a dead horse (I think I am tho)-

I've read through all 3 pages here-and done some searching on navteq's site-with little help.

I have a MY04 996 C4S Cabrio that was missing the nav cd's when I bought the car-

I've since rcvd CD's from the dealer-but I got 8 of them (4 to cover the US-the rest for S America, Canadia, ect)-

I'm trying to read the orig TSB that Loren posted (thatnks for that) but I cant seem to place it-

I should have a 2.0 system that uses 2 CD's-but I have 8.....

So-should I have an upgraded system (and if so-is that something I should/could perform with the correct CD's or have the dealer do)? I was driving through a smaller town in MN this weekend-it didnt have any city roads listed (zoomed all the way in) and I cant get POI's to show on the screen (Loved that on my AMG for gas stations, ect).

Thanks so far for all the posts-I'm up to page 134 on the 996 C4S and learning every day something new!

I have a similar question. Just bought a MY03 C4S Coupe. My first Porsche buy so I am new to all of this. It has Nav and I didn't get the CD's (private sale). When I push MAIN and TRIP I get the following

PCM 3.0

System Software 3.0

Device type 6634

Serial Number 3500XXXX

Can anyone tell me the type of Head unit that I have (PCM 1 or 2)

Where can I get a manual for this head unit?

Is this unit CD based only?

Are there any software firmware updates available?

What would be the latest US west disc that is available (California specifically)?

I haven't been to the dealer yet (closest one is 60 miles away)

any answers will be helpful

You have PCM2.0, which has CD based maps only, and it has the latest software installed. You can download an operators manual from this site, but I believe you have to be a Contributing Member. ;) ;)

I have a 2004 Turbo Cabriolet. It has the Factory PCM 2.0.

Pushing Main and Trip shows the following:

Software Versions

3.0 ...PCM

3.0 ... Systems Software

6634 ... Device Type

XXXXXXXX Serial Number (Note it displays the actual serial number 8 digits)

You have a PCM 2.0.

The update CD disc set last updated in Nov 2008 is Porsche part number 000.044.901.21

You can but this for $299.00 at Sunset Porsche in Oregon (they ship)

Disclaimer - There "may be" a 2009 version coming out since this version was created for 2008 and there are only 2 months left this year.

Best,

Al

Im sorry but the information you have provided is incorrect... Part number 000.044.901.21 was Released in Aug 2008 and the Maps are from 08/2007... There are no Updated Map Packs since then, and the PCM 2.0 has been completely phased out. That means there will be no more Map Updates... no 2009 Version....

I took the plunge and edited the update32.inf file and removed reference to the Telephone on the PCM v2.0 to v3.0 update CD files.

My inf file now reads

[system]

ReleaseVersion=3.0

AllowedDevices=6631,6632,6633,6634

[gateway]

Path=/gateway/gateway.bin

ReleaseVersion=3.0

Inst=03

StartAddr=98368

Memtype=06

Format=00

Name=PCM2 HU-Gateway/ST10

Date=13.03.2003

ECUSoftwareVersionNumber=03114AD1

ECUSoftwareNumber=1103

Comment=

[MMI]

Path=/Mmi/Porsche.bin

ReleaseVersion=3.0

Inst=04

StartAddr=262144

Memtype=06

Format=00

Name=PCM2 HU-MMI

Date=28.05.2003

ECUSoftwareVersionNumber=03202ED1

ECUSoftwareNumber=2203

Comment=

I then burned this together with folders, 'gateway' & 'MMI' using Nero to a CDROM at 4x Speed

I inserted this into my PCM and went through the same steps as detailed above, however this time is reported Device 1 of 2 (for the 2 updates, as expected)

At one point the update failed and asked me to insert the CD again, however I didn't and the update started again without removing the CD.

This time everything was successful and the update took place, it does take a little while so don't panic.

Also at the end of the update the screen goes blank when the PCM reboots for the update to take effect.

I am now running version 3 software.

I haven't noticed any real differences apart from NAVI now shows POI's and has 2 settings for the display colours but thats about it.

Although those features might have been there before, I am unsure.

Anyhow, this answers my own question and hopefully many other peoples.

Good Day,

I just purchased a 99 C4 with navigation, but I do not have the CD for my region (Oregon/California). Can anyone suggest where I might obtain a CD for this (I believe) first generation nav system? PCM 1?

Thank you,

Eric

Navigation disks are available from NAVTECH. Their customer support number is 1 (888) 628-6277.

Hello,

I recently purchased a 2001 (Pre-September = 3.4l) 996 C4 and urgently need CD MAP #6 for New England & Mid Atlantic , version 2001.1 for PCM 1. Hopefully, someone has one that they can sell me. As you may all know Navteq and Porsche are no longer support these 8 bit CD's.

Best regards, Martin

Version 3 software is the latest for PCM2.0. When you insert a map CD it asks if you want to update, but I don't think it is a software update. I believe it is updating the Points of Interest.
