factory location of wheel security lug key

Now that I am up to almost 1,400 miles on my '97 tip, I need to change out the factory brake fluid, but I can't get the wheels off as I can't locate the security lug key. IF it were in the factory location, where might that be? I have searched both door pockets, inside the velcro pouch in the front, inside the tool bag, inside the tool kit (styro) and inside the shelf behing the cabin.

It should be in your tool pouch or with your spare (stuffed in the black styrofoam). Dealers have all the security keys. A good reason to get rid of the security bolts. I had my tires checked last week at America's Tire and they said they never hear of cars having wheels stolen anymore

Racking up the miles on the garage queen. Almost broken in.

If you can't find it then it is missing in action, not uncommon with a used car. I got rid of the locking wheels bolts years ago and replaced them with standard bolts.

When the car was new it came in a plastic bag and there was a white sticker on the bag. That sticker has the code for the wheel lock key. Also, some dealerships would write the code on the white option sticker under the front trunk lid. It is made by McGard if you can find the code.

If all else fails a dealership has a complete set of all the locking keys.

I just saw a set of wheel lock removers at Harbor Freight today....unfortunately, there'll probably be more crooks buying them than folks with a legit reason.

You might also look in the bottom of the pouch that has the wheel nut socket on it....sometimes the lock is on the nut socket upside down in the tool bag and it looks like part of the socket. They also fit almost exactly in your center console ash tray.

If you don't have that the bag with the Mcgard code on it or the Porsche Security Code card, you are SOL. I was just at Euroclassics on Midlothian Tpke asking a similar question. They can only order a key if you have the key card in the owners manual (have you looked?) I have the bag for mine, but no card, and they said what Toolpants said...contact Mcgard with the code. The key is $30. Euroclassics'll sell you four new lug bolts for $20, which is a good price. That's what I did. They might even lend you the correct key if you buy the lug bolts there..if you ever have the car serviced, then they don't have to fool with wheel locks... I've never heard of anyone stealing Porsche wheels in Richmond...and if they did I wouldn't mind 4 new wheels & tires for my deductible! BTW, mine was in the spare tire cover, buried....

As a side note to whether Porsche wheels would get stolen... From my research (trying to buy rims for my winter tires), Porsche wheels pretty much only fit on Porsches anyways. I actually had to buy a second-hand set of 16" Porsche rims (Thanks Fred!) for my snow tires. So any thief with minimal knowledge wouldn't bother.
