Hello I have a 2002 Boxster and it is making some rather unusual sounds. Sometimes when I turn ther key to start the ignition, I get this awful sound like pulling a record backwards on a record player?!? Any idea what that could be? Also when I change gears sometimes I hear a "clunking" sound like something is moving around in my back passenger side of the trunk, like 2 midgets wrestling in my trunk. There are no sounds when I'm not shifting gears. Any ideas on these 2 annoying sounds would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Hi,

I would guess that the sink-roes (no Idea on spelling) have been damaged by

shifting without a clutch. I suggest you let a transmission

expect drive your car.

Hello.

The sound you have on startup looks like your Starter bendix need to be replace.

The starter removal is an easy DIY, and you could have it rebuilt.

Good luck.

There is a common fault with the starter bendix and bushing making noise when the engine actually starts but it could also be a damaged ring gear on the flywheel. The starter has to be removed to inspect both faults. As for the clunk noise, check the front engine mount. I believe it's been updated to a 987 part number.
