Unable to playback MP3 CD

I have a 2007 997 with CD changer.

I can play audio CD (including some I burned with ROXIO or Microsoft Media Player) in the CD changer, but I have been unable to play any data CDs with many MP3 files. I want to record about 50/70 songs in a (data) CD, rather than the usual 12 songs you can burn in an audio CD.

I am fairly computer literate and I can use most CD recording software. I have attempted various recordings of data CD, recording with Disc at Once, track at once, I finalize the CD , used different mode and file system, to no avail. The CD charger does not recognize the CD at all. The single CD player not only does not recognize the CD but also refuses to eject it, as if it doesn't exists (I got it out anyway with a hard reset).

The various software versions are as follows:

SW version 4.0

CDC C38/3003

AMP 00017600/3105

SYSTEM 05462AD1/4605

PCM 05395BD1/4505

I assume that the software versions are pretty much up to date, but I appreciate if somebody thinks the problem is the software version I have

Can somebody share the specific CD recording options they have used to burn a CD containing a large number of MP3 files?

you might have the mp3 in a folder. Load

every mp3 on to the disk by itself.

The player does not read folders.

Folders is not a problem,

i use multiple folder each for every artist. You can easily navigate using the audio button

Have had some problem that the drive wouldn't read certain mp3 files

this was due to the files weren't lame encoded. Hope this helps

A MY2007 997 PCM should play MP3's with no issues. Did you buy the car new? If not, the PCM may have been previously replaced with a "Model Level A" version which noes not play MP3's. 997's built after mid-April 2005 have a "Model Level B" PCM which does play MP3's. Porsche workshop campaign W610 resolved this issue with 2005 and 2006 997's with "Model Level B" PCM that may have had an issue playing MP3's.

Those that managed to burn MP3 files, which software did you use to burn the CD ?

You need to get your firmware version checked - and if it does not work they need to replace it under warranty.

If the PCM 2.1 is running anything later than level 3 its a genuine level B unit from the factory. The earlier level A units can only be updated as far as level 3 ,since the software levels beyond this are specific to the units fitted with the MP3 enabled CD drive. If problems persist you can ask the dealer to install the level C software which fixes bugs , though it sounds like your software is pretty much up to date. The CD changer cannot and will not play MP3 files , only the PCM drive can do this and the music must be recorded on a CD rather than DVD. The Level C software is normally only applied as a patch to version 3 level B units which are having difficuly with CD and MP3 files. This takes the software to level 3.3 I beleive. Since you are at level 4 I doubt there is any hotfix available , but its worth asking at the local dealership anyway.

I also recall reading somewhere that the CD has to be closed using the iso9001 format so it can be read in generic CD players. Is it possible this option wasn't enabled when the CD was ripped ?

I got it to work, thanks to those that tried to help.

When I started my test the PCM refused to read the disc and didn't eject it either, thus I did more tests with the CD changer. I didn't know that the changer doesn't read mp3. Thus I started doing tests with the PCM again, the key to get it work was to finalize the disc.
