Hello All, has anyone any information on how to remove the original spoiler on the 987 model Boxster S ?

I was toying with the idea of fitting the 987 "sportdesign" package to my S, but decided that I didn't like the "pretend" diffuser at the rear (since when did Porsche start producing "pretend" items?, oh, I forgot, since the central front air intake on the 987 S ! !)

But then, after an age of searching, I found this, which is a lot more stylish. Ok, so it's down to personal preference, but if Diamonds are a girl's best friend, I'm sure that Carbon Fibre must be man's. - dont tell the dog!

Well, the central front air intake on the 987 S is actually used on the Tip tranny for the 3rd radiator to cool the trans fluid. But, then who would drive an automatic Porsche! :)

My wife would have, and that's the reason I bought mine with a manual tranny!!!

The central radiator got nothing to do with tiptronic, the transmission got a water/oil exchanger on top. It depends on the car for ex. 997 - S - 4S - turbo.

What I am saying is that on a 987S manual, the center vent is closed. On a 987S Tip, the center vent is open, and behind it is the trans cooler. Do I have this wrong?

Nice color combo on you car.

I did explain to her that having two people driving the same clutch would reduce clutch life. She is happy driving the E320, though.

Thanks for the compliment on the color combo -- before we ordered the car, we drove around to various Porsche dealers on Sunday evenings to see if they had a car with the same colors so I could get the "Wife's Seal of Approval".

Here's a recent picture with 2 coats of Zaino on it.

The central cooler is a part of the engine cooling system. There is no central cooler on 987 tip. or man. 987S have one.

I know it is confused. The tip.cooler is a water/oil exchanger ( as on the engine ) controlled by a old fashion VW heater core water valve ( vacuum ). The valve is closed by vacuum all the time till the temp.sensor in the transmission send a signal to the control box to open the valve. The control box send this signal to a solenoid which shut off the vacuum and at this moment the water/oil exchanger is a part of the cooling system. If you ever have a tiptr. which run too cold, even after replacing the thermostat, look for a cracked vacuum hose or faulty water valve, the solenoid is under control.

Ok, I've answered my own question! - Thought I'd post my findings here for the benefit of all! -

1. Move the spoiler to the UP position

2. The box section that is now exposed is made up of 4 elements, 2 long sides (front/back of spoiler), and 2 short "end caps", made of a plastic looking material.

3. Carefully slide these end caps OUTWARDS (requires a LITTLE amount of force, which "unclips" the clip holding the end caps in place)

4. The nuts securing the "box section" that forms the spoiler and cover plates to the mechanism that raises and lowers the spoiler are now visible.

5. Undo these nuts and remove them, then carefully slide the whole spoiler upwards and away from the body.

6. The whole process should take no longer than 10 minutes.

Refitting the original spoiler is the reverse of the above!, but why bother, when there are numerous better designs available? (including the cayman spoiler).
