Hello all,

I am attempting my first AOS replacement tomorrow morning (00' Boxster) and I just wanted to get input if there is there a lubricant out there that is the equivalent to

"KLUBER SYNTHESO GLEP"? Porsche part# (000.043.204.68) * To be totally honest: I'm just a little too frugal to fork out that much for a little tube of lube.

The dealership was more than willing TO USE the following lubricants ON ME prior to billing me to do the work I have chosen to do myself:

Vaseline

KY Jelly

Astroglide

Motion Lotion w/heat

I gracefully declined their offer.........however I would appreciate your suggestions! P.S. "Also just want to confirm that the AOS tightening torque to crankcase is: 10 NM or 7.15 FT LBS Is this correct?"

Thanks in advance.

Never heard of that. I assume it is so you can slide the bellows on. The mechanics I know don't use anything. Maybe try some silicone lube.

They also don't use a worm drive hose clamp like we do. They use the spring band clamp that has this blue thing that keeps the clamp open. When the clamp is in place the blue thing is pulled off. Might try that unless you are going to use a hose clamp.

Christian:

It's not a super tight fit, and the bellows slides on pretty easily. If you wish, you can use a little "Armorall" or something similar that is supposedly easy on rubber and vinyl. Although some people say that silicone attacks rubber, I think that is a very long term degradation, if it happens at all.

Regards, Maurice.

Silicone is harmless to most rubber/plastics. The key is not to use something that is petroleum-based, which silicone itself is not. Other choices for this situation are dielectric grease and Krytox. --Brian
