People were using the Optima 34R on the 996/986 and I can't think of why it would be any different for a 997.

Your 997 uses the same crappy Moll battery used on the 996/996. 12volts, lead and acid. Nothing special. What I don't get is that the 2005 and newer cars have a black sticker accross the caps. Guess this is to trick the customer into thinking you can't remove the caps to check the acid level. Or, so that the dealership will know that you did so.

The Interstate battery number depends on what you have now. Look at your battery and it will be either a 70 or 80 amp hour Moll. The Porsche part numbers are on a sticker and start with 999. 070 in the part number is what I call the mid-size battery. 080 in the part number is the larger battery.

If you have the 70 amp battery then the size of that battery matches close enough to a US sized BCI 48 battery that you can find at almost any parts place. If you have the Moll 70 and want to go with the euro sized Interstate I think it is MTP-91.
