AMP connectors to mate with factory harness

I copied several part numbers from harness connections to my '03 Boxster S so that I could assemble a custom harness for installing a new stereo but the numbers come up as "customer proprietary" on Amp's site... i.e., they are renumbered for Porsche. Does anyone know how I can get generic part numbers for building custom wiring harnesses for connection to existing factory connections?

Specifically I am looking for the mates to:

1. Phone harness connector part # AMP 1-828-819-1 (factory harness has a female connector)

2. Amplifier harness (BE6600) part # AMP 1-828-882-1 (factory harness has a female connector)

3. Radio Harness black and yellow connectors (factory harness has female connectors)

This will all end up as a DIY for stereo installations...

AMP is a funny company. I contacted them years ago to buy connectors. Some where restricted parts, and others you had to buy like 1,000 at a time. I did not have much luck on google because these are automotive connectors. I have seen some audio connectors. They are called ISO or somethinglike that.

That's good for the radio end...I 've never seen that. But, of course, there are already harnesses made for those connectors. I agree, I'd really like to have a mate for the two amplifier plugs in the trunk. That would be VERY helpful!

The image you attached, can you buy that kit? Where did you get the image from?

Don't remember. Saved it years ago from some site or ebay when searching for ISO mini or microtimer connectors and pins.

You could also try Becker and see if you get lucky. Or maybe a stereo shop that works on Porches that has cut them off. This picture is from ebay.

Note that the male ends of these plugs also have part numbers:

On amplifier (male plugs)

Small connector

(radio to amplifier)

1 962748-2 PET

AMP 1-963539-2

Big connector

(amplifier to speakers)

AMP 1-828-881-2 H

BMW 1 383 515

The Tyco page for the male connector also lists it as "restricted". Searching on the BMW part number for the big connector (the one on the amplifier, which is one of the ones you are looking for), I found this reference on a BMW E60 forum:

The picture (which you have to register to see) looks exactly like the connector on the Porsche amplifier. The poster there says

The Tyco Amp part number is 1-828881-2 and the BMW part no is 61 13 1 383 515 9

Have you tried asking Porsche if they will sell you the connectors? Also, it might be worth talking to one of the big online car stereo places. I vaguely remember a reference to one selling a connector kit that includes one or more of the connectors you are looking for.

It might also be worth calling BMW parts.

Suggest contacting Crutchfield (or someone similar) and ask about after market audio install wiring adaptor kits. I've used them on several cars, and they allow you to install an aftermarket system without cutting any parts of the factory harness.....also makes it possible to pull the after market unit out and reinstall the factory unit in mins. and without any fuss.

Crutchfield only supports up to 2002 as in 2003 Porsche moved to the MOST bus. Since posting this original thread I've successfully installed my AVIC D3 and am just finishing up with an Alpine PDX-5 amplifier. When it's all done I'll post a DIY with pictures. I purchased the complete set of shop manuals for the Boxster from Sunset Imports that came with full wiring diagrams for my car. Big help in figuring this upgrade out!

I agree! It's like buying a porsche and then running bias ply passenger tires! :o Your stereo is only as good as the weakest link. If you have replaced the head unit, amp and speakers, why skimp on the wiring?

at the weakest point I agree, their 18AWG VS my 4AWG
