Fake Billsteins?

Ive been looking for coilovers and I saw these PSS9's on ebay:

In the picture he has 2 different model numbers

F4-BM5-6803-H1

F4-VM3-5252-HO

Where the actual model from what I can tell should be F4-GM5-8846-H0

I contacted the guy and he said they are legit with less than 600 miles. It seems to me like total BS. I have Billsteins with 10K miles on my M3 and they dont look that beat up, I dont understand how there could be different model numbers for the same set, and even worse model numbers that dont seem to match up to anything.

It all to fishy to me so I will stay away. Is there something Im missing?

I wondered the same thing when I saw the ad on ebay. When I checked the Bilstein web site the first number did not match to anything, but the second part number matched to a set of PSS9's price at $849.00 new, but no fitment was given.

Seems kind of fishy to me.

C2 and C4 are different Bilstein part numbers. Perhaps you should ask him which car they came off of.

well I contacted the seller and he just has lie after lie.

First he bought them from a friend who has a gt3 (not sure why he had to tell me that, maybe to give me the impression hes got firends with porches).Then he siad he got them from pelican parts. Then when I called him on it and said look up those numbers at Bilstein this is what he said:

"Just confirmed with Bilstein that those #'s have NO MEANING to the layman. This is a complete bolt on kit. Unless your a dealer what you see is usless!! Go ahead and find an authorized dealer *******. Ask them and see what they say. "

Why on earth would you jump to the conclusion that someone would go to the trouble of creating identical replicas of Bilstein PSS9s?

To reinforce what Loren said. You just need to know if they came off a C2 based car (rear wheel drive) or a C4/C4s/TT type car (all wheel drive).

Well for starter he posted pics of 2 different model #'s. I have had a few pairs of Billsteins and currently have them on my M3. The model # is the same on all of them.

Second you can always look up model numbers at the Bilstein site to see what they refer too:

In this case one of those model #'s did not resolve to anything and the 2nd actually said they were from a pss kit.

Third last year there was a huge market or replica Tein springs and coilovers that went un-noticed for quite some time.

Ive exchanged about 8 ebay messages with the guy. He cannot even tell me what they came from. First he said they were a friends that he got then he said he got them from Pelican parts. He never once answered what model they were for. He goes on to tell me hes a racer and all kinds of other irrelevant stuff though.

I dont think this means there is a company making replicas. I think they guy pieced together a few Bilstein kits and stamped it with some fake #'s and is trying to screw someone out of some cash. He also may be an idiot and someone screwed him and he doesnt realize it.

I know this is an ancient(!) topic, but this thread came up when I was looking for info on my inherited suspension setup. My right rear shock has the model number F4-BM5-D540-H1 on it. I reached out to Bilstein support. They confirmed the model number I sent is an old number, but from the PSS10 / B16 coilover kit. When you look up the kit number provided by Bilstein, it shows that it is appropriate for a 996. Thought this could help someone else who lands on this page looking for similar info.
