Hi, just came back home after a short run, i notice that the oil pressure gauge is indicating 0 (zero)!!! :(

The indicator never changes its position ... it seems completely disconnected !

My car is a TT m.y. 2001 ... after 10 seconds thinking ... oh my god ... what's going on, i finally realized that the engine was running perfect as usual !!!

So i'm pretty sure that the problem can be located in the sensor that read the engine oil pressure or in the instrument !!!

My question is if anybody had before a similar problem and if it's possible to know where the sensor is located or anyway how to solve this problem ... hoping is not an engine failure !

Thank you

I've been having the same issue for quite some time now. We changed the presure sensor (or whatever it's called), but it didn't help. The gauge works kind of randomly: it's absolutely ok for a certain time, then the needle falls down like dead for some time, comes back to life, dies again, etc. No clue. :o

But the engine is perfectly healthy.

Assuming the oil pressure dash light (idiot light) did not come then the problem is either sender, wiring or instrument cluster.

There is a dual circuit oil pressure system on the car so the dash light is separate from the gauges.

Check the sender, and wiring and if they are both ok - then I'm sorry to say you will likely need a new cluster.

In my case, it's the sender that's been replaced, and I think the wiring has been checked too. That would mean replacing the whole cluster???... wow... :(

Well, just checked the sender, i found a disconnectedd wire !!!

Not easy to put the wire in its place, but at the end i did it ... the gauge is ok !!!

For today i'm a lucky guy ... thank you Loren one more time !

Hi,

I have a similar problem, except that the reading is at the max (Above 5).

The engine is running great and the oil level is normal. However, the needle always stays above 5, it only comes down when I shut the engine off.

Could it be a bad connection? If so, where do I look? Cluster or oil pressure sensor (not sure where it is located).

Thanks,

Fred

I should check the sensor in first place.

Problem fixed! Sportec had a look at it, and it was the wiring. Quick fix, big effect. The needle is useful again! :-)

Oil gauge drops to 0 for a few seconds, 'Failuer indicator' light comes on. The pressure jumps back up to normal operation. When I run through the onboard for issues, it doesn't tell me anything. Was going to my local shop for an oil change and spring install this week. Should I just go into the dealership?

Thanks,

Scott

If this happens at start up then have your dealer perform TSB 3/00 1728 Lack of Oil Pressure on Start Up (dated 7-27-00).
