Hello-

I just brought my 04 S in for service, one of my complaints being that the clutch pedal squeaks and clicks. They fixed the squeak by lubricating it, however they say the click is normal. I understand that manual cars have a switch so you don't start the car with the car in gear, but out of all of my stick cars, I have never heard them click.

Can anyone verify for me that the clutch pedal should in fact click when depressed? It happens when it is almost completely depressed, when I imagine the switch is activated. It's not real loud, but loud enough where I can hear it if I don't have the radio on.

Thanks!

Welcome, Tom from Babblers (Same one?). Didn't realize you were here now.

Is your site still running? Could not find last time I looked, but frequent the Babblers site.

Edit - Well I should have followed the link and it would have answered a lot.

I know you'll be making helpful contributions like this one. Your site was one of the originals that introduced me to forums, hacks, and how to be a Waiter!

 Tom has been around here since I opened the board in 2003.

Tom has always been a good resource and is very knowledgeable on Boxsters.

With his board, job, and family we are always happy when he can find some "spare" time to post here too.

Thanks for the info... since the squeak is now gone, I don't find the click as offensive... but if it starts to bother me, I will do the "hack" described above.

I hear the click too. Which I thought was weird at first but after reading the Porsche manual about how you should depress the clutch all the way when shifting gears, it kinda makes me think that they designed it that way to let you know when it's considered fully depressed. Just a thought, not 100% sure.

I've got the clutch switch click too. So just for my clarification... is the clutch switch supposed to be audible? I can live with it if it is but I want to fix it if it isn't.

Yes, it is supposed to click.

I also have zip-tied my switch closed because the click was annoying. Just remember that you can now start the car without pressing the clutch. This can be a good or bad thing. Be careful.
