Hello,

I have been having problems with my PCM. Occasionally if I leave a CD in the drive over night, or for a few hours, when I return to the car I get a horrible loud buzzing sound until I finally eject the CD. Combine this problem with the fact that I'm not a big fan of the porsche PCM to begin with (given its not touchscreen, the navi is really dated, and it has no aux input for ipods, and no BT), I thought that instead of purchasing something like the Mobdridge Bluetooth audio to add those features, I may as well just swap out the malfunctioning PCM, and purcahse a new deck that does everything. Unfortunately I havne't been able to find any information regarding a Pioneer Avic Z2 deck into Cayennes.

Has anyone done this before? or had any experience swapping out the porsche pcm for an aftermarket navi deck? is there an adaptor for the steering wheel to work? and where could I potentially find a matching face plate?

Thanks very much in advance!

I actually called Pioneer and discussed this with them. I was told that it was not compatible with the Cayenne. I don't know if it is true or not, but that's what they told me...

That's pretty disappointing.... Thanks for the reply though.... Any idea if there's another one that may work? I think Kenwood makes one as well, a DNX7100 that's similar in terms of functionality to the pioneer.

I'm not convinced that the Pioneer unit won't work. It might be worth further investigation. The Pioneer rep that I contacted didn't seem too familiar with Porsches.

Jim,

You can definitely do it! Check out this link!

The problem with any aftermarket stereo is the stupid fiberoptic Bose amp. To my knowledge there is no way to go from RCA to fiberoptic. This means you have to replace the Bose amp and then of course you may run into issues with the crappy Bose speakers. Good news is, once you rip all that junk out you never have to worry about it again! B)

Here in Japan the PCM is not an option... so we have to choose aftermarket navigation systems.

Pioneer is one that makes great aftermarket navigation systems here in Japan.

In fact, that will probably be the brand I get when my Cayenne arrives later this year.

As mentioned before, you will not be able to use the orig. amp, so you'll have to get that ripped out.

In Japan, the MOST system is an option and not standard. Therefore the speakers that come in the car as default work fine with RCA.

Hey! Thanks for all of the info. I know the bose speakers are junk, and I intend on replacing them, but I'd rather not have to do everything in one shot. Is there a way to get the bose speakers to work with the avic if I replace the bose amp? That way I can get around to replacing the speakers in a few months.

Is there a kit available to fit the thing in the dash?

Sorry for the late reply...

I tried searching the Japanese Pioneer website for a dash kit, but couldn't find anything...

I know they're avaliable, but I dont know where to get one online.

The local autoparts store could probably order one...

I had a Kenwood DNX7100 Nav unit installed in my 2005 Cayenne by Car Toys in Dallas Texas. This is a double din unit like the pioneer. There was no dash kit available, so they simply cut a piece of flat ABS to fit the dash opening and the unit. Looks like a factory install. The Amp was bypassed and the unit spliced directly to the speakers and sounds fine. The only issue was that there is no interface available for the steering wheel controls so they are disabled. Both Nav and audio function great.

Hey cb101, could you post some pics of your install? I'm wondering if I should have my installer fabricate something or if I should just buy the japanese double din kit.

There is a double-din kit out there, but it's kind of pricey. $330

It looks pretty nice, but I'm wondering if just a flat piece of plastic that matches the dash would look better.

As for the steering wheel controls, I remember reading somewhere that there is a unit out there to give you access to those buttons on the steering wheel. If you need, I could probably find it. Let me know.

I'll take some pictures this evening and post. If you can give me a link to a steering wheel kit that would be great. I've seen some referenced in forums, but when I have called the manufacturer or distributor it was a no go.

And another. Note you can see two velcro tabs the tech used to secure the panel. They are only visible because of the flash and cannot be seen from inside the car. The install was done about 8 months ago with no problems to date.

I am ready to abandon the PCM, and would love to find an aftermarket kit. My worry is the wiring harness. Has anyone made any progress on the harness front?

Anyone know of a radio that can utilize the steering wheel controls?

Great thread so far-- Thanks for the info.
