Adding sound insulation

After years of looking I have bought myself a 2006 Boxster S.

I love the sound of the car when the roof is down, but am not so mad on the engine/drivetrain whine when the roof is up.

Has anyone had any success adding sound insulation to quiten the cabin with the roof up?

I have lined the inside of the outer door skins with Dynamat, and have yet to do the rear firewall, which is next up.

The doors have a definite solid "thunk" and the Dyanamat has reduced roadnoise a bit. Another poster on PPBB (RGrindle) has done his rear firewall and posted a photo of it on PPBB.

The Dynamat also adds a little weight to the car, but nothing notable, unless you are going to track the car.

This is the first post I have ever seen, where someone is trying to make our cars quieter! :) Usually, it is the other way around- need more sound from the engine, exhaust, air intake or stereo.

Bigcar, I hear the Buick Lecurne is very-very quiet. :)

Thanks 1schoir - I wonder how good a job the Dynamat did? I have heard it lets the exhaust note through while damping the higher frequencies.

And as for White987S - Ah, the Buick - you American's do love a good boat......
