Sunroof drains

When I washed the car today I noticed water dripping from the headliner in the rear seats, right near the top of the rear window. Did a search and found where the drainage points are, but couldn't find any pics or instructions on how to access them. Does anybody have a procedure (or a link to one that I missed on the forum)? I don't want to start tearing stuff apart that doesn't need to be to access them.

Are the coupe drains completely different? I found the rubber end and pulled it off (behind the tire, not in front as the other thread shows) (it currently remains off). The drain just looks like a black tube. I tried to run a wire through it and only got about a cm up before the wire stopped. A bend in the drain, perhaps?

Is there an easy way to take the rear plastic wheel well cover off? The one towards the front of the rear wheel was easy, but the one on the backside seems like it's connected to the bumper assembly. Without taking this off I can't put the rubber nozzle back on.

Also, what steps are required to do the top portion of the drain? Entire head liner removal? Called the dealership and said it'd be a minimum charge of $500 to check it out.

I found the thread to remove the headliner. I assume this is how to access the drains?

Look at the thread (further down on that same page - I posted a pic with both the Cab and Coupe drains. The coupe are indeed behind the rear tires and behind the front tires.

Went down to the garage, took a look at removing headliner, and figured it'd be an easy way for me to turn a quick DIY fix into an expensive dealership mess. Took it to the dealer last night before I messed things up, got 'er fixed up today. Apparently it was a cracked/broken seal from the drain lines to the accumulation area.

Upholstry was never my strong point :huh:

02 996 coupe, cleaned out the 4 drains in front by battery but took off driver front tire and liner and could not find the sunroof drain anywhere. Didn't try rear drivers side yet. What am i missing?

The sunroof drains comes not as a tube in the wheel well, the drain looks like a press-in button and is situated in the lower extension of the A pillars behind the front wheels. It is not recommended to enter the hose with a metal wire, the hose is made from very vulnerable stuff, you will see what i mean when you pull out the drain button.

Thanks RFM, I'm not quite sure where this drain button is or how to access it in front- can you give me a bit more info. Is this seen with the wheel liner off? or in another access area? i saw some wires and stuff tucked up by edge of front door when i had liner off but didn't want to start messing around there.

Also see that there is small plastic lining by front door hinges that can be removed with few screws with front door open- wasn't sure if this was access or not.

In the 996 forum: " Water in the driver door " Loren posted a diagram with the drains for 996 coupe with sun roof, it is # 2 you need, visible after removing the front wheel and wheel well. Just pull the button out, the drain tube is attached on it.

Thanks for the info- just couldn't tell from diagram and already put liner/tire back on - wanted to be be sure it was here before i pulled it off again. Mahalo for your help.
