Hello-

My 04 S came to me with a aftermarket radio already installed. I decided to go back to the factory CDR23 since I didn't like the replacement radio. I purchased another CDR23 from an 03 911 off of ebay since the PO didn't have the old radio. I know I need to get them paired, and my car is going into the shop soon for service, however after I hooked up the replacement CDR23, it just continually turns itself on and says PORSCHE, then turns off and back on again, saying PORSCHE again. It does this continually with the car off and the key out of the ignition.

Is this what an unpaired CDR23 will do until I have it paired, or do I have another underlying wiring problem? I clipped in a small yellow connector, a larger black connector, and a small round black connector. I suppose the other possibility is a defective radio, since all I had was the word of the seller that it had functioned properly when removed.

Thanks for the help!

Barring any wiring problems, you might have someone with a PST2 / PIWIS run the "Sportscar Handover" routine. That solved my CDR-23 coding problem when I replaced the instrument cluster in my car. Because the CDR-23 doesn't use a specific radio code to enable it to function, it looks at the instrument cluster to determine that it's in the proper car (not stolen).

The sportscar handover routine is normally used by the dealer's techs to electrically wake up the car after being shipped from the factory.

Cheers,

Thanks for the info. I also have one other thing to look into - I saw on ppbb someone who posted that his CDR23 did the power cycling thing when his battery was shot. Mine is actually a brand new Optima that I installed before doing the radio - I have yet to start the car with it in, or charge it, so it could just be the fact that the battery is low on power. I will either charge the new battery or put back in the old one to see if that resolves the problem.

I am aware of the need to sync it, I just didn't think it would continuously power cycle itself. I would've expected it to say something on the screen or not do anything at all.

CDR-23 radios are synch'ed to the car. So if you change radios you must re-synch it using a PST2 or PIWIS.
