996 facelift

Hi everyone, I have a 99 996, done a couple of mods thanks to renntech :renntech: , I recently finished my PSE installed w/switch, and starting

a 02+ facelift. I did alot of research and got all the necessary parts. My only problem is the pricey$$ wiring harness for bi-xenons.

1- I can find connectors for headlight, but is the wiring the same on my99 and 02+ bi-xenon, I have retrofit litronics so no auto-leveling.

2- I thought using 02+ bi-xenon wiring diagram and my99 diagram, I could try matching pin to headlight. will it work or I need to do other mods.

I read about this in http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...&hl=harness, but the topic stops. and am sure the other alternative

than spending $$$.

Im just waiting to figure out what to do about this issue then I'll start the facelift project. And I thought since there's alot of unanswered question

regarding older 996 to new 996 conversion, I will do a step by step w/pics of the project in the DIY section.

Have you checked with Sunset Imports (Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost)?

Otherwise I think you need to look at a salvage yard...

Anyway you look at it, it is absolutely worth the money. Your car is going to look stunning. So spend the extra G and do not try rewiring. Your wiring harnesses do not have the girth to handle Xenons. Once you look at the harnesses, you will appreciate their values. TOP NOTCH MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP..

Loren, do you have the part number for `02+ bi-xenon harness,

dealer tells me they have 996.612.317.15 which is for driver side,

and as for passenger side its the complete passenger side harness

which is about 6-7 Gs. So should I get twice the same wires or Is there a different

harness that I could use for this facelift.

Yes, on the MY02 and newer the right harness is part of the passenger compartment wiring harness. Very big and expensive (over $5000 MSRP).

This is why I mentioned a salvage yard. Find the pieces you need and splice it in.

All I need is a how to wire it together. any tips.

Do I have to change the Wheel liners as well for this mod.? I know its not same part #,

but Is there difference as far as the shape itself, can I use my99 ones?

I am not sure about the wheel wells other then I have never heard them being on the list of replacement parts for the face lift.

BTW: What bumper was on the pre-face lift? Any good front shots of it? Are you looking to get rid of it? I have been thinking of changing my 99' non aero bumper out.

I think you could get those light trays for about $100 for the set at LA Dismantler also. I was told by them the old ones would not work. By the way, how much are you asking for your old bumper? Just wondering:)

The headlight mounting tray do need to be changed to pot MY02 or newer headlights in a MY01 or older car.

I already have the trays, what I wanna know is the screws and nuts that hold the tray to fenders..shoud they be replaced with newer ones??

Its a caractere bumper made for 996, and it fits your 01C4.

you can use the older headlight tray fixings but you will need to completely dismantle them - they are construced from a softish alloy so they come apart with moderate force. Once dismantled you will need to reassemble either side of your new wings fixing holes - hope some of this makes sense, just done a similar job on my Box'

I made my own harnesses for my 02-on 996 halogen headlights which I retrofitted with xenon lamps and ballasts (the light units and lenses/reflectors are the same so can take xenons with no worries). I cut the connectors off of the old fried-egg headlights and soldered on new wires and used some coloured heatshrink and shroud. The lights fired up with no problems and built up to a steady bright white light, (4300K) power consumption is rated at 35w so shouldn't be any problems running on your standard loom (55w). Start up current shouldn't be a major issue either - quoted currents are typically less than 6A for most 35w aftermarket systems.
